Taxotere

Taxotere (docetaxel) is an intravenous chemotherapeutic drug used to treat many types of cancer, including breast cancer. Manufactured by Sanofi, Taxotere has been linked to several severe vision-related side effects, including, lacrimal duct obstruction, canalicular stenosis, and cystoid macular edema (CME), one of the most severe conditions associated with the drug. Lacrimal duct obstruction and canicular stenosis can lead to excessive tearing and potential permanent vision loss.

CME involves fluid accumulation in the macula, the central part of the retina responsible for sharp, central vision. This condition can lead to distorted or reduced vision, significantly impacting a patient’s quality of life.

A warning about vision-related side effects, including CME, was added to the label in 2014. However, many Taxotere vision loss lawsuits include “failure to warn” as a cause of action. Plaintiffs allege that Sanofi did not adequately warn patients and healthcare providers about the risk of severe and potentially permanent vision-related side effects, such as excessive tearing (epiphora), canalicular stenosis, and cystoid macular edema
