A group of three environmental groups are accusing Chevron of false advertising by overstating its investment in renewable energy and actions to slow greenhouse gas emissions in a complaint to the Federal Trade Commission. Reuters news says that Global Witness, Greenpeace and Earthworks filed the complaint and that it is the first time the FTC has been petitioned under the 2012 “Green Guides” rules, aimed at stopping false environmental claims by energy companies.
