In the first verdict of its kind, an Ohio federal court jury found that retailers CVS, Walgreens and Walmart were liable for contributing to the opioid crisis by selling large doses of painkillers without sufficient oversight. The case was brought by the counties of Lake and Trumbull, Ohio and accused the retailers of contributing to a “public nuisance” through its actions in the opioid crisis, thus validating a core legal theory for thousands of other lawsuits nationwide, Law360 reports.
