Valisure Petitions FDA to Remove Sunscreens Containing Benzene

The pharmaceutical testing company Valisure petitioned the FDA to recall 40 different batches of sunscreen and sun care products after finding “significantly detected levels” of the known carcinogen benzene in the products. The batches came from 10 different brands, including Neutrogena.

The Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) has determined that benzene causes cancer in humans, with long-term exposure causing leukemia. According to the FDA, there are no safe levels of benzene exposure.

Valisure is an online pharmacy with an independent lab that checks the chemical composition of medications and products sold on the site.
